A well-known pub in County Tipperary has just received planning permission to carry out a substantial extension. The local authority has granted permission for this development, which represents a significant expansion of the existing premises.
According to the approved plans, the expansion will involve alterations and additions that will notably increase the building’s footprint. Pat Sheehy had applied to Tipperary County Council to build an extension to the Roundhill Bar in Ballinteenoe, outside Nenagh.

Among the proposals is the construction of new space to the rear, which will allow for improved facilities and better service capacity. Internally, reconfigurations are also part of the design, enabling more efficient use of the available area.
The owners emphasised the necessity of growth to adapt to customer demand, pointing out that the extension will help accommodate more patrons while elevating the experience on offer.
They noted that the upgrades will not only benefit regular customers but also make the venue more competitive in the local hospitality market.
In granting permission, the council considered the scheme’s alignment with planning policies and its impact on neighbouring properties. Conditions attached to the approval include requirements around materials, finishes, and ensuring minimal disruption during construction.
The application had attracted attention from local residents, some of whom raised concerns about increased traffic, noise, and potential overshadowing.
However, the planning authority concluded that with the stipulated conditions, the extension would proceed without causing significant adverse effects to surrounding properties.
Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, subject to compliance with all regulatory requirements. Once complete, the expanded pub aims to enhance both its capacity and its role as a social hub in the area.
