LATEST: Taoiseach opens over 60 new houses in local Tipperary town

Taoiseach Micheál Martin

Taoiseach Micheál Martin officially opened 61 new social homes in Dun Lia, Thurles, delivered by Clúid, Ireland’s leading Approved Housing Body.

The 61 homes complete the existing Dun Lia estate and will provide secure, long-term, affordable homes for individuals and families on the Tipperary County Council housing list.

The new homes are a mix of 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom houses, including eight two-bed bungalows to be allocated to household with accessibility requirements, such as older people or wheelchair users.

Residents are due to begin moving in from next week.

The new homes in Dun Lia are Clúid’s first in Thurles and bring to 409 the number of Clúid homes in Tipperary.

Clúid also delivered 58 homes in Roscrea this year, with an additional 24 due to be completed before the end of the year.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin commented: “I am honoured to be here today in Thurles to officially open these 61 new social homes. Each one of these homes represents a fresh start for an individual or family. I hope to be attending even more of these wonderful events in the coming months and years. Under our new housing strategy, Delivering Homes, Building Communities, this government is committed to delivering an average of 12,000 new social homes every year until 2030. AHBs and local authorities will play an integral part in achieving these ambitious targets, so I want to commend Clúid and Tipperary County Council for what they have done here and encourage them to keep up the good work.”

Brian O’Gorman, Chief Executive Officer, Clúid, commented: “The homes here in Dun Lia are fine examples of the kind of homes Clúid is delivering across the country. The new residents here in Dun Lia will begin getting their keys and moving in next week. They will be spending this Christmas in their ‘forever home’ and starting 2026 with the security and peace of mind that quality, secure housing brings.

“Our growing construction programme is working to ensure even more individuals and families have a high-quality, secure and affordable place to call home. AHBs like Clúid have played an important role in addressing housing need under the Housing for All strategy, and we will continue to play our part under the Government’s new housing strategy, Delivering Homes, Building Communities.”

Emma O’Mahony, who is moving into one of the new homes added: “I am delighted to have recently received a new home from Clúid. This has been a brilliant opportunity for myself and my three children, as it offers us stability with a forever home. Having three kids, including one with additional needs, knowing that we won't have to move again is such a positive for us. I look forward to being part of the Clúid community.”

The homes have been developed by Ormonde Homes (Thurles) via Clúid’s sector-leading Developer Design and Build programme.

The homes were designed by Brian Dunlop Architects Limited and constructed by Ormonde Construction Limited.

The homes were delivered in partnership with Tipperary County Council, and with the support of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, The Housing Agency and the Housing Finance Agency.
