The Cahir CahirTidy Towns Groups awards night took place in the Shamrock Lounge last Saturday and thank you to Dolans SuperValu for their continuous support of this local competition.
Thank you also to Hughie & Margaret in the Shamrock for the welcome.
Each year the mystery judges troll the streets to see what hanging baskets, shop fronts; estates etc have made an effort to win some of the vouchers on offer.

The overall winner this year was Dr. David Butler of Carrigeen Castle who has made huge improvements to the entrance and gardens and included sustainable planting with specific focus on biodiversity. Congratulations to David.
The best newcomer went to Mace on Castle Street who won a cup and well done here to Jason & Jennifer Maher. Many other categories were announced on the night and certificates awarded to those present. The Cahir Youth Tidy Towns Group came out in force to accept their certificates of appreciation for their efforts during the summer in helping us retain our Bronze Medal.
The big news this week also is the announcement of the green flag awards. This can be found in a separate report on the Cahir Page. We are thankful to every group, estate, private house, business or individual who played their part in keeping Cahir tidy and beautiful.
It is a community effort and everyone can help.
The winners were as follows. Best Newcomer business - awarded to Mace, Castle Street, Best kept small Estate awarded to Birchdale and Nash Place, Best kept large Estate awarded to Beechpark and Mullaney Gardens, Best Large Garden including Biodiversity awarded to Patty Costigan, Jo Doyle & Brenda Burke, Best Small Garden including Biodiversity awarded to Denver Burke, Tom & Mary Fitzgerald and Hannah Lynch, Best private floral display awarded to Kevin Hubbard, Kathleen Butler & Tricia Flannery, Business Floral Display awarded to The Hill Bar, Galtee Inn & Liam Wall Barbers, Best kept Business front awarded to Darren Ward Jewellers, Allure & John Quirke Jeweller and Overall Winners cup awarded to Dr. David Butler for Carrigeen Castle Best large garden entrance. Well done to all. Certificates can be collected at The Enterprise Centre.

We now focus our attention on the Santa’s Grotto and in the coming week and people will see lights on in preparation for December 6 & 7 where children can meet Santa and get a present for just a €5. More information the coming weeks about times, but we can confirm the tractor run is leaving the Mart at 4.30pm to reach the Square for 5pm and children’s tractors in lights immediately after the main tractors where they meet in the main car park.
