The initiative is a collaboration between Cashel Chamber of Commerce, Cashel Rugby Club, and Le Chéile Cashel, designed to draw visitors into the town, support local businesses, and create a lively Christmas atmosphere.
Councillor Liam Browne described the event as a potential springboard for both a joyous holiday celebration and a much-needed economic boost, saying, “This is only the start, we're going to make Cashel the 'come to town' in Tipperary at Christmas time.”
Festivities begin on Saturday afternoon with Cashel Rugby Club’s Truck and Tractor Run, which starts at 3.30 pm. A convoy of trucks, tractors, and vintage cars, all adorned with festive lights, will parade through the town before culminating in a Christmas Light Show at 6 pm.
Ed Ryan, the event organiser, said, “We’re aiming to make this the biggest Christmas light tractor run in Ireland.” Proceeds from the event will support Cashel Minis Rugby Club, Scoil Cormaic, and Scoil Aonghusa.
At the same time, Cashel Chamber of Commerce will host the Christmas Lights Switch-On at the Plaza, accompanied by St. Patrick’s Brass Band.
Gavin O’Dowd, Chamber President, said the event is about “creating a festive town centre and encouraging people to shop local,” with Le Chéile Cashel providing the Plaza’s Christmas tree as the centrepiece of the celebrations.
On Sunday, December 7th, Le Chéile Cashel’s Christmas Market at Halla na Féile will offer artisan crafts, festive foods, and community stalls.
Angela McGrath, Chairperson of Le Chéile Cashel, said, “Last year we welcomed nearly 1,000 visitors, and we expect even more this year.”
Santa and Mrs. Claus will also make a special appearance with a photo-friendly sleigh. The festival promises a weekend of family fun, festive cheer, and support for local businesses and charities.
With a mix of festive lights, community events, and family-friendly activities, Cashel at Christmas aims to shine a spotlight on the town, offering both a warm seasonal welcome and a boost to local businesses.
Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to come, celebrate, and enjoy all that Cashel has to offer this holiday season.
