The announcement was made during the presentation of Securing Ireland’s Future Sectoral Investment Plan: Justice Sector, which outlines strategic investment priorities for the next five years and identifies key capital projects designed to support public safety.
Under the National Development Plan Review 2025, the Department of Justice and its agencies have been allocated €2.18 billion in capital funding for 2026 to 2030.
Officials describe this as a record level of investment that will underpin a wide range of essential projects across the justice sector.
Policing in Ireland is evolving in line with international trends, with an emphasis on technology, new digital and evidential systems, and modern facilities to accommodate a growing workforce.
The funding will support the delivery of state-of-the-art Garda stations and specialist training centres, alongside large-scale technology upgrades.
The Irish Prison Service is accelerating programmes to expand capacity and modernise its estate, while also improving opportunities for rehabilitation, education, and healthcare.
Meanwhile, the Courts Service is moving rapidly towards digitisation, aiming to enhance efficiency, reduce backlogs, and strengthen regional infrastructure.
Construction on the new Family Courts at Hammond Lane in Dublin, a central part of the Government’s Family Justice Strategy, is expected to begin in early 2027.
Significant investment will also be directed towards critical digital infrastructure, the transformation of immigration services, EU compliance, cyber resilience, and cross-agency information sharing, including a new headquarters for Dublin North.
More than €30 million will be allocated to the National Cyber Security Centre and to the development of new immigration and border systems.
Technology investments in An Garda Síochána will deliver advanced digital systems across security, policing, and corporate functions, while also supporting the nationwide rollout of body-worn cameras and a modern digital evidence management system.
This initiative forms part of a wider drive to ensure Ireland’s justice services are equipped to meet both current and future challenges, combining infrastructure modernisation with cutting-edge technology to enhance public safety and operational efficiency.
