A GoFundMe page has been created to help cover the funeral expenses of Dessie Carroll, a popular local man who died in a fire at his home in Clonmel last month.

Mr Carroll, originally from Cahir, was in his seventies when emergency services were called to his home in the Carrigeen estate on the night of Sunday, November 23. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the wake of his passing, friends have launched a fundraiser to assist with the costs of his burial. Organiser Lisa Keating described Mr Carroll as a “wonderful friend, partner to Pat, an exceptionally talented hairdresser who was generous with his time and his talents.”

She added that he would be lovingly remembered for his “wit, humour, mischievousness and a twinkle of eye that would light up any room.” Ms Keating noted that Mr Carroll had a unique ability to make those around him feel special. “His sayings and ways will long live on in our hearts,” she said.

The campaign has raised more than €2,800 towards its €6,500 target. On the GoFundMe page, Ms Keating explains her reasons for organising the fundraiser:

“Hi everyone, my name is Lisa Keating and I am organising this fundraiser to help pay the cost of our beloved Dessie Carroll's funeral and burial. Dessie was a wonderful friend, partner to Pat, and an exceptionally talented hairdresser who was generous with his time and talents.

Dessie will be lovingly remembered for his wit, humour, mischievousness and a twinkle of eye that would light up any room. He had a way of making you think you were the only person in the world, and his sayings and ways will long live on in our hearts.

Please, if you can, donate any small amount to help with the funeral costs. Dessie's last tip for a wonderful service to us all.”
