Dessie Carroll, in his seventies, died when a fire engulfed his home in the Carrigeen estate on Sunday, November 23rd. Originally from Cahir, Mr Carroll was remembered for his warmth and the way he made those around him feel uniquely valued.

Friends and neighbours established the online fundraiser to assist with burial expenses. By early December, 215 donations had accumulated €6,683, surpassing the organisers’ expectations.

Lisa Keating, who helped co-ordinate the effort, described the response as “amazing” and expressed gratitude to all who contributed.

Tributes have continued to pour in, reflecting a community united in grief and in the desire to honour the memory of a much-loved local figure.
