The site, which has remained unused for several years, is earmarked for the construction of 13 new homes.

Councillor Declan Burgess welcomed the move, highlighting the council’s commitment to inclusive housing. He has advocated for the inclusion of ground-floor bedrooms to accommodate residents with mobility challenges.

Councillor Burgess noted that recent local housing projects have often lacked such accessible units and expressed satisfaction that his request will be incorporated into the design.

The proposal has been submitted to the Department of Housing and Local Government for consideration. Once approved, the council is expected to present a draft scheme to elected members in the New Year.

The planned development will include a mix of homes designed to meet a variety of needs: two one-bedroom units, five two-bedroom units, four three-bedroom units, and two four-bedroom units.

Councillor Burgess thanked council officials for their engagement in the project and expressed optimism about its delivery, describing it as a positive step for the local community.
