Mr King, a well known figure in the area, was widely respected for his long involvement in community life and for the support he and his family provided to local initiatives. His death has been described by many as a significant loss to the parish.

Ballina GAA, with which the King family has had a long association, issued a statement expressing its condolences. The club said it wished to extend heartfelt sympathies to the friends and family of Joe King and noted that he and his family had been dedicated members of the club. The statement added that Joe would be sincerely missed and concluded with the message, "May he Rest in Peace".

Reaction from the public was immediate, with residents posting tributes online. One community member wrote, "Rip Joe. Condolences to his children and all the King family. Such a lovely man." Similar remarks were shared throughout the day as news of his passing spread.

Joe King is survived by his family and is being remembered locally for his kindness, his community spirit and the warm manner that endeared him to so many.
