Comeragh College are the Munster Under 17 hurling champions for the 2025/26 season following an impressive victory over Coláiste Chiaráin, Croom, in the provincial final played at Fethard Town Park.

The win was particularly meaningful for Comeragh College, which suffered a disappointing defeat to the same opposition in the Munster Under 19 final on October 2.

It also brought welcome redemption after last year’s loss in the Under 17 final to St Paul’s Community College of Waterford.
From the opening minutes, it was clear that Comeragh College were determined to put in a strong performance.

Their work rate and intensity were evident from the start, although Croom were equally committed and contested every ball.
Comeragh College opened the scoring through Jack Dowley of St Molleran’s, who broke through the centre of the Croom defence.

Momentum quickly shifted in Comeragh College’s favour when Adam Power of Windgap scored two goals in quick succession, giving his side a strong platform.

Croom responded with some well-taken points, but Comeragh College remained in control throughout the first half.

Captain Theo Meagher of Portlaw led by example, scoring several important points against the wind to help his team establish a 12-point lead at half-time.

Croom began the second half strongly, registering four unanswered points and briefly putting Comeragh College under pressure.

However, Comeragh responded well, with Eoin McNamara of Portlaw scoring an excellent point to steady the team as the match progressed. Comeragh College produced several outstanding individual performances.

James Skehan of Clonea made a crucial goal-line save that drew a strong reaction from the crowd. Goalkeeper Ruairí Leane, also of Clonea, was excellent throughout the game, keeping a clean sheet and delivering accurate puck-outs.

In defence, Cian Power of Portlaw was solid at full back and played a key role in limiting Croom to just nine points.

Theo Meagher’s free taking was of a very high standard, as he finished the match with an impressive tally of 1-16, including 1-10 from placed balls.

Comeragh College also made full use of their bench, introducing all five substitutes to maintain energy levels and ensure a strong finish to the game.

At the final whistle, celebrations followed as players and supporters came onto the pitch.

Captain Theo Meagher lifted the Corn Ghearóid Mac Bheinéid on behalf of Comeragh College, securing their place as joint leaders on the roll of honour alongside St Paul’s Community College, with two Munster U17 titles.

Comeragh College scorers: Theo Meagher 1-16 (1-10 frees), Adam Power 2-01, Jack Dowley 0-02, Eoin McNamara 0-02, James Skehan 0-01.

The final highlighted the strength of schools hurling across the region, with players representing clubs from Waterford, Tipperary and Kilkenny, including Clonea, Portlaw, Carrick Swan, Carrick Davins, Windgap, Grangemockler and St Molleran’s.
