Since it began in 2022, When Next We Meet has brought artists to Clonmel who might not otherwise have graced a local stage. From Bell X1 and Villagers to Lisa Hannigan and Pillow Queens, some of the country’s most respected Irish acts have performed right on our doorstep.
Alongside the headline names each year, local and emerging artists have had valuable opportunities to perform on ambitious line-ups. A boost has been felt across the original music scene of the town. Singer-songwriters and bands from the area have enjoyed the networking opportunities afforded by this festival in their hometown, and the connections made with audiences and industry members alike.
The 2026 line-up introduces an international element with deep Irish roots. Mike Scott’s genre- defying Scottish-Irish band The Waterboys are set to headline the festival on Sunday May 31st.
Formed in the 1980’s, the band are renowned for anthems such as the enduring classic “The Whole of The Moon” and the Irish-folk influenced “Fisherman Blues”, songs that have soundtracked generations.
There’s more exciting news too. Cork singer-songwriter Mick Flannery, known for his raw, emotionally direct lyrics and soulful blend of folk, rock and Americana, will return to Clonmel with Susan O’Neill. With striking harmonies and a full band they will perform the sublime music of their acclaimed 2021 collaboration In the Game along with other favourites.
Local businessman and CEO of Camida David Anchell has been a key supporter of the festival since its inception in 2022.
Speaking about the latest announcements, he shared his excitement: “The festival is really shaping up to be something special this year. The Waterboys in particular excite me. After 30 dedicated years of listening to Mike Scott and co, I’m delighted to be bringing them to Clonmel, to see them play in my hometown on what just happens to also be my birthday!”
