The people of Bansha were united in grief in the village’s Church of the Annunciation this morning (Tuesday, December 23) at the funeral of local man Nathan Walsh, who died tragically in a traffic accident on the N24 near Tipperary Town.

The rural community was deeply shocked and saddened at the death of the 24-year-old from Radharc na hAbhainn, Bansha in a single vehicle collision at Cordangan Cross on Wednesday night, December 17.

He was the fourth young man to die on Tipperary's roads in the space of five days.

Before the ceremony, Fr Michael Hickey, PP of Bansha and Kilmoyler Parish, extended his deepest condolences, on behalf of the parish, to Nathan’s heartbroken family at this very, very tragic time for them.

“Nathan was lovely, pleasant, very talented and very kind and gentle. He had a tremendous capacity with friends to ensure that a friendship was a genuine friendship,” he told The Nationalist.

The former student of Bansha National School and The Abbey School in Tipperary Town had worked at Boyle Sports in Tipperary Town before his death.

Nathan is survived by his mother Georgina, sister Nicole, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family and friends.

His remains reposed at Whelan’s Funeral Home at Bansha Road, Tipperary Town on Monday evening, December 22.

Requiem Mass was celebrated at the Church of the Annunciation, Bansha at 11am today( Tuesday, December 23). He was buried after the ceremony in the adjoining cemetery.
