LATEST: Emergency services rush to scene in Tipperary after person suffered broken leg

Walker requires medical attention after suffering broken leg on Long Hill Clonmel

The recent cold snap hasn’t deterred walkers from getting outdoors and active, despite the terrible on-foot conditions.
A hiker broke their leg while on the Holy Year Cross trail. South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA) responded and helped the injured person during their first call of 2026.
On Saturday, January 3 at 14:50, SEMRA received a call from the National Ambulance Service (NAS) requesting assistance for a walker who had fallen and injured their leg on Long Hill, above Clonmel.
Team members and vehicles went to the Holy Year Cross trailhead. Because of the recent cold weather, the ground was firm, so the Land Rovers could easily drive up the track to reach the walker.
The walker was put in a kisu, or storm shelter, to keep warm and was checked by the team doctor.
An advanced paramedic from NAS was also brought to the scene. After the walker was checked, their leg was splinted, and they were given pain relief.
The team then put the walker on a stretcher and into the back of the Land Rover to bring them down to the waiting NAS ambulance.
Stand down was called at 17:11, with everyone safely off the hill and heading home. It was a beautiful evening on the hill, apart from the unfortunate injury.
