Students of primary and secondary schools in Carrick-on-Suir and neighbouring communities and Kildalton Agricultural College raised over €5,000 for the local St Vincent de Paul’s annual Christmas food hampers appeal.

The appeal run by the St Nicholas/ St Molleran’s Conference of St Vincent de Paul resulted in 100 hampers being delivered to elderly people and families in the community before Christmas.

The conference wrote to all the schools in the locality before Christmas enquiring if they could host fundraisers for the appeal.

The charity said the response was overwhelming. The more than €5,000 collected was used to provide food hampers and food and solid fuel vouchers to people in need.

St Nicholas/St Molleran’s Conference President Michael Lonergan thanked the principals, teachers, staff and students in the schools and college that took part in the appeal as well as the parents.

“I congratulate them on their magnificient effort in raising funds to help those less fortunate in our community. The effort and initiative shown by our young people in our schools has to be commended. We in the conference are very grateful for all their hard work and support,” he added.
