Wrestling star is looking forward to show in home town in Tipperary

Scott Connolly says he has taken his training to the next level over the last six months

Currently on their country wide tour, Stars of American Wrestling are making a stop in Clonmel. The powerhouses of Grand Slam Wrestling are getting set to put on an unforgettable show at the Talbot Hotel Clonmel on this Sunday, February 15 at 3pm.

An afternoon of WWE-style action will include the body slamming Heavyweights and the top rope-flying Cruiserweight daredevils. High risk in-ring moves will be on display throughout the schedule of match-ups, with the Grand Slam wrestling gladiators delivering back-breakers, suplexes and dropkicks galore.

Amongst the muscle-packed superstars and over-the-top characters set to appear on the night is a local man who has been given a huge opportunity to take on the best inside the wrestling ring.

Clonmel man Scott Connolly has been training and performing as a professional wrestler for a number of years and now his hard work has finally paid off.

Growing up in Elm Park, while attending Raheen College, Scott was a keen participant in a range of sports including soccer, boxing and martial arts. However, there was one prominent interest throughout his childhood and teenage years that captured his imagination – professional wrestling. Watching WWE programmes on television, Scott was in awe of wrestling superstars such as The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and John Cena. Seeing these superhero-like characters inspired him to find out where he could train to perform as a professional wrestler.

Striking it lucky, Scott found a professional wrestling training school in the Munster region. Although the physicality of the training was a shock to the system, Scott quickly decided he wanted to pursue this career. He dedicated countless hours and endured rigorous training camps to be physically ready for the high impact nature of this unique art form.

On his introduction to professional wrestling, he says “I have taken part in many contact sports, but nothing could prepare me for the physicality of professional wrestling. The initial training sessions were a major shock to the system. I watched it on TV, read about it in magazines and like many had the perception that the ring itself can’t be too hard. When I hit the mat for the first time, I soon realised how wrong I was! It’s an art form that requires precision technique and timing to avoid injury”.

Having performed on shows the length and breadth of the island of Ireland, Scott is motivated now more than ever to get to the top of the industry in the next three years.

When looking at the current record-breaking number of Irish-born WWE superstars headlining the bill across the globe including Sheamus, Finn Balor, Becky Lynch, JD McDonagh and Lyra Valkyria, the pathway to superstardom has never been clearer for the Tipperary man.

Speaking on the upcoming show in Clonmel, he stated, “Performing in front of a sellout hometown audience was the highlight of my year in 2025 and I am very excited to do the same again this year.

“I hope to take it one step further on Sunday February 15 in the Talbot Hotel and bring home the Grand Slam Wrestling Heavyweight Championship. Over the last six months I have taken my training to the next level, and I am confident I can overturn the champion. When I step through the curtain and hear the roar of the people of Clonmel, I will have no other option but to put in my best performance to date, leave it all in the ring and bring home the gold”.

Standing in Scott’s way is the Heavyweight champion, the American Bruiser; Brody Steele. The muscle-packed, chain-yielding roughhouse provides an intimidating battle for any challenger. The Bruiser recently stated he has only one vision for his debut in Clonmel on February 15 and that is to steamroll any wrestler who gets in his way!

The Grand Slam Wrestling Show has a family-friendly theme with action, drama and comedy for young and old to enjoy. After a jam-packed card of exciting matches, fans in attendance who have opted to pick up a Backstage Pass at the merchandise stand will have the opportunity to meet all the wrestlers and collect autographs and pictures.

Tickets for this American Wrestling event are €15 and can be purchased now at the reception desk of the Talbot Hotel, with a limited number of tickets available on the door.
