Caoimhe McCarthy has been appointed Tipperary Senior Camogie captain for the 2026 season, with the Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams player confirmed in the role following Tipperary’s opening round league win over Antrim.
It was after that victory that McCarthy spoke of her pride at taking on the position, while stressing the collective strength within the squad.

“I am delighted, look to be honest it could have been any of the 35 girls on the panel. There are a serious bunch of leaders there… delighted to captain Tipp.”
Her remarks reflected a dressing room that views leadership as dispersed rather than concentrated. Even so, the formal duty now rests with her as Tipperary embark on the new campaign.
The season began in convincing fashion. Tipperary travelled to Antrim for their Division 1A opener in the Centra National League and returned with a 2-19 to 0-9 win, securing all three points with authority.
The visitors established control early through sharp movement and intelligent support play. The midfield unit contributed on the scoreboard, while McCarthy demonstrated her attacking instincts from centre back, advancing to register a point and underline her influence beyond defensive responsibilities.
Although Antrim narrowed the gap during a competitive spell in the first half, Tipperary’s persistence told. A crucial goal before the interval created daylight between the sides and shifted the contest firmly in the Premier County’s favour.
After the restart, Tipperary managed the game with composure. Their defensive shape remained solid, transitions were efficient and further scores, including a second goal, removed any lingering doubt about the outcome.
For manager James Heffernan, the performance offered encouragement in both result and execution. For McCarthy, newly entrusted with the captaincy, it marked a measured and effective beginning, combining leadership at the back with a willingness to drive forward when the opportunity arose.
