The Bye-Laws will set parking products and prices for all nine towns in County Tipperary. As of last week, the Council had received only five submissions.
At Monday's Tipperary Cahir Cashel meeting, Councillors Mairin McGrath and Anne Marie Ryan requested more time for people to give their opinions and asked the Council to make the documents and maps easier to find online. The Council has shared two clear maps for each of the nine towns, showing street parking and parking lots. The new plan sets one parking price for Clonmel, nearly the same as in Thurles and Nenagh, and applies the same price to the other six towns. Parking charges will apply from 8:30am to 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday. The draft rules now give 20 minutes of free parking, but some councillors want to increase this to 30 or 60 minutes. Each town will have its own parking rates, with areas for short-term, medium-term, and all-day parking.
The Council also plans to return some of the extra money a town earns from parking, above 2023 levels, so local communities get a direct benefit from more parking.
