The proposed parking charges apply from 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday, though some have suggested changing this to 9am to 5.30pm.
Residents from all nine towns have shared their thoughts, with 17 public submissions sent to Tipperary County Council about the new parking bye-laws.
Among the submissions is one from the County Tipperary Chamber of Commerce, highlighting the delicate task of balancing customer, staff, and resident parking needs while ensuring funding for upkeep, signage, and modern payment options. Anyone can have their say for free by sending submissions to Liam Brett at the council offices on Limerick Road in Nenagh or by emailing parkingbyelaws@tipperarycoco.ie before March 13 4.30pm.
Curious about the changes? The proposals are available at all five council offices and online under the consultation tab. Each town features two detailed maps that guide you to on-street and off-street parking spots, as well as zones for short, medium, or all-day stays. all-day parking.
The new bylaws will outline available parking products, such as permits, and specify times and prices for each town. Pricing will vary: Clonmel will have its own rates, Thurles and Nenagh will share another set, and the remaining six towns will have similar prices.
The proposed parking charges apply from 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday, though some have suggested changing this to 9am to 5.30pm. The rules also propose a 20-minute free on-street parking period in each town. In some areas, such as Cahir town centre, this would reduce the current two-hour free parking period. Some councillors have proposed increasing the free period to 30 minutes or up to one hour.
The proposal also promises that if a town brings in more parking revenue than in 2023, a share of those extra funds will be reinvested right back into the community.
