PLANNING: Mr Price seeks approval for major expansion of its store in Tipperary

Plan focuses on bulky and comparison goods only with no food or convenience items

PLANNING: Mr Price seeks approval for major expansion of its store in Tipperary

The future of the Mr Price store in Tipperary Town has once again become the focus of local planning attention.

Located on the Limerick Road, the retail park has seen multiple planning applications and appeals to An Coimisiún Pleanala in recent years.

Previously, Tipperary County Council ruled that the site is zoned for light industrial use, which it said made it unsuitable for a retail operation such as Mr Price.

CORAJIO, the company behind Mr Price, has now submitted a new application to the council.

The proposal seeks retention permission for the merging of units 1 and 2 and also requests planning approval to combine these units with unit 3 to create a single retail warehouse.

The application also includes a request to amalgamate units 7 and 8.

According to the submission, Mr Price intends to expand the current store to focus exclusively on comparison and bulky goods, reflecting its online retail offering.

“No traditional convenience retailing will occur on-site,” the company notes, clarifying that the store will not stock confectionery, food, or non-durable cleaning products.

A decision from Tipperary County Council is expected by April 19.
