BREAKING NEWS: Solar farm plans sent for review to Tipperary County Council

Tipperary County Council is set to make a decision on the application by April 20.

A significant solar energy venture is on the horizon for the outskirts of Tipperary town, signalling a bold leap forward for renewable energy in the community.

Sparrow Solar has applied to Tipperary County Council for permission to build a solar farm at Lisheennamalausa, Ballyryan West, Gortdrum, and Barnanalleen.

The proposed site is approximately 5 kilometres from Tipperary town and 1.5 kilometres from the village of Monard.

The project will feature rows of solar panels mounted on steel frames (structures that support the panels for optimal sun exposure), 17 transformers (equipment that adjusts electrical voltage), underground cabling (wires buried underground to carry electricity safely), secure fencing, 43 security cameras, improved access roads, and new landscaping to help the facility blend into its surroundings.

According to the company, the solar farm is expected to operate for 40 years and could power more than 10,000 homes.

This will be the second solar farm developed in the area in recent years. Power Capital received approval for a solar farm on adjacent land in 2022.

Tipperary County Council is set to make a decision on the application by April 20.
