Tim O’Mahony, CEO of Irish Guide Dogs, said: “We are particularly proud to open the waiting list this year as we celebrate our 50th anniversary. Over the past five decades, Irish Guide Dogs has transformed the lives of more than 2,000 families and individuals through the provision of Guide, Assistance and Community Dogs. In 2005, Irish Guide Dogs launched Europe’s first dedicated Assistance Dog Programme for children with autism, establishing new standards in training, dog welfare, and family support. It is now Ireland’s largest and most successful programme of its kind for autism.

“Our Assistance Dogs provide life-changing support for children and their families, promoting independence, confidence, and safety,” Mr O’Mahony added. “The demand for our services continues to grow, and we encourage families considering an application to review requirements in advance of the opening date.” Those interested in applying should visit the Irish Guide Dogs website before March 23 to review the application criteria and access the FAQ section. Before applications open, parents can join free online talks to learn more about the program and talk directly with the Irish Guide Dogs team. Find all the details at www.GuideDogs.ie.
