The state of Tipperary’s roads and the struggle for funding took centre stage at the latest County Council meeting.
Councillor Jim Ryan called for Oireachtas members to join council meetings, urging them to confront the ongoing lack of support for Tipperary.
“I am critical of our Dail representatives, especially those in government, for seeking credit for road funding announcements when the February allocation for Tipperary’s roads was actually reduced compared to 2025 levels,” Ryan said.
“Despite worsening road conditions caused by heavy rain, support has not increased. In my view, our representation on road issues is inadequate.”

“I’m going to keep fighting for this, but we need Oireachtas members to attend county council meetings and ask what they are doing to secure more funding for Tipperary County Council for various items, including roads. All of us have been here for years, looking for extra funding and are getting nowhere.”
“The tipping point for me was the one-million-dollar cut from the regional roads budget. We cannot continue with repeated meetings where councillors note the funding shortfall; we need answers directly from those responsible.”
Councillor David Dunne echoed the frustration, blaming the government for the ‘disgraceful’ state of both rural and town roads across Tipperary.
“I’m not blaming the council, I’m putting it squarely in the government for not funding this.”
