The ongoing war in Iran has sent fuel prices soaring, leaving consumers across the country grappling with higher pump prices.

But the ripple effects do not stop there, as road maintenance is now under threat, according to Liam Brett, Director of Services for Roads & Transportation, Health & Safety, who addressed the March Tipperary County Council meeting.

“Based on the current price of diesel, the amount of fuel that we use will lead to an additional quarter of a million that we will spend on roads this year,” Brett said.

He added, "So this will impact services if this continues throughout the year; that’s just fuel that doesn't take into account everything else that’s used."
