Twenty young Dundrum athletes competed at Munster Indoor Championships

Ellen Maher, Farren Ryan, Bella Curling, Grace Butler and Isobel Hartnett, all Dundrum AC, at the Munster Juvenile Indoors in Nenagh Olympic Stadium

Day 3 and 4 of the Munster Athletics Juvenile Indoor Championships were held in Nenagh Olympic Stadium and catered for the Under 12 to Under 14 age groups.

Dundrum AC had 10 girls in action. In the Under 12 age group the club had three athletes, Lily O’Brien in the Shot Putt, Sophia Ryan in the 60 metres, 800 metres and Long Jump and Fiadh Ryan competed in the 60 metres, 600 metres and Long Jump and all three combined with Shona Ryan to complete an Under 13 relay team.

The girls enjoyed the day in a very competitive fixture and did a few personal bests along the way.

In the girls Under 13 Shona Ryan competed in the Hurdles, 600 metres and Long Jump, where she did a personal best. Leah Shanahan competed in the Shot Putt and Long Jump.

In the girls Under 14 Dundrum AC had five athletes - Ellen Maher, Farran Ryan, Grace Butler, Isobel Hartnett and Bella Curling and they were very competitive, with all running the 800 metres for the first time in competition, giving themselves new targets to aim for.

Farren, Grace, Bella and Ellen also did the Long Jump. Bella competed in the hurdles and Isobel and Ellen ran the 60 metres. They also ran a very good time in the 4 x 200 metres relay but were out of the medals.

Dundrum AC had seven boys in action, with Ruairi O’Neill competing in the Under 13 60 metres and Long Jump.
Max Furlong also competed in the long jump Under 13.

The club had five boys Under 12 competing. David DeBurca and Harry Creedon came through the 60 metres heats and competed in the semi-finals.

Sean Fitzgerald and Kyle Pliszka also competed in the 60 metres heats. Sean was third in his heat of the 60 metres hurdles and also ran the 600 metres. Kyle also ran the 600 metres.

Harry and David had personal bests in the Long Jump but were out of the medals and Harry also competed in his first High Jump competition, jumping 1.15 metres and finishing fifth in a field of 33.

Daithi Comerford, David, Sean and Harry gave a good display in the relay and the run out should help them in the county championships this weekend.

Well done to all who competed over the two days and it is now on to the county indoors this Sunday, where the club expects to have a big entry.
