An Coimisiún Pleanála has approved a new housing development in Thurles, revising some original conditions.

Back in August, Tipperary County Council signed off on plans to build 60 new homes and a creche along Brittas. The creche is set to welcome up to 47 children, complementing the 60 new houses. O’Ceallaigh Westfield Ltd of Laois also secured approval for an additional 52 homes. The project will transform the 2-hectare site by removing an existing bungalow and shed.

Dermot Ryan, representing the Marlstone Manor Residents Association, filed an appeal that recognised strong local and national demand for housing. The appeal cited issues, including road safety concerns on the busy N62 Thurles–Templemore Road, and concerns about the proposed second phase of the development. The developers pushed back against every concern raised in the appeal. In the end, the High Court granted permission for the project.
