Housing was a major talking point at the monthly district meeting for Tipperary Cahir Cashel.

While social housing and what is and isn’t included in choice-based letting were raised, Councillor Andy Moloney wanted the council to acknowledge that more needs to be done for young people who pay taxes to the government but can’t catch a break in the current housing market.

“We need to have a serious look at the whole housing situation,” Moloney said.

“I had a good discusions there at the weekend just gone by while were here discussing council housing the treshholds that are there for people that are working qualifed kids after coming out of college getting there qualifactions that are working locally contributing substancially to society and the economy are living at home under there parents feet and have no options or no way to get out the door on there own.”

“We come in here every time we have a meeting, and we're trying to do the best we can, but at the same time, we’re forgetting the young people who went off and done well for themselves, and then we ask the question, ' Why are they heading off to Australia?”

“When you see 28 to 32-year-olds sitting at home because they can’t see how they're going to get out of this thing.”

“There’s not enough being done to bridge the gap to allow young people to move out and get going.”

“It’s disheartening.”
