Faugheen 50 Motorcycle Road Racing Club’s cacophonus cavalcade of motorbikes and motorised go karts won the best entry prize in Carrick-on-Suir St Patrick’s Day Parade.

The town’s St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee presented the club’s representatives with the Cathleen Fahey Cup after the finish of the pageant at the car park next to Carrick Library.

The club’s entry included a lorry carrying on its trailer several racing motorbikes whose drivers revelled in revving their engines.

The lorry advertising the Faugheen 50 sprint series of races planned in July, was followed by an equally noisy fleet of motorbikes and motorised go-karts.

One of the young go-karters was Ben O’Keeffe, who has achieved multiple podium places in Motorsport Ireland championship races and competed for Ireland abroad.

Carrick-on-Suir MD Cathaoirleach Cllr David Dunne, who is a member of Carrick’s St Patrick's Day Parade Committee, presented the cup to the group.

He paid tribute to the Faugheen 50 RR Club for the huge effort its members put into taking part in the parade and congratulated the club on winning the award.

The trophy is named in memory of the late Cathleen Fahey, a much loved member of Carrick’s St Patrick's Day Parade Committee who passed away a few years ago.
