First patient welcomed to HSE's new clinic rooms at unit in Tipperary

The HSE Dublin and South East’s South Tipperary Chronic Disease Community Specialist Services has welcomed its first patient to its newly-developed clinic rooms in Clonmel.

Located in St Paul’s Unit on the HSE’s Western Road campus in the town, the refurbished facility will provide care for people living with Type 2 diabetes, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma and heart conditions.

The clinic rooms were created through extensive renovations of the former St Paul’s Ward on the Clonmel campus.

The Le Cáirde Alzheimer’s Day Care Centre (operated by Alzheimer’s Ireland and funded by the HSE) continues to operate in the same building.

Welcoming the opening of the clinic rooms, Tara Hunt, General Manager, Primary Care (Carlow–Kilkenny / South Tipperary Integrated Healthcare Area), said: “It is a wonderful boost for patients, their families and our colleagues in the HSE locally to have this specially adapted, modern facility. It will strengthen integration of local health services, improve coordination and enhance patient outcomes, while maintaining close links with Tipperary University Hospital”.

Cardiovascular Clinical Nurse Specialist Ashling Moloney welcomed the first patient, William Cahill, who is well known locally from his many years managing the shop at the nearby Tipperary University Hospital.

Also present was Kate O’Connor, Operational Team Lead for South Tipperary Chronic Disease Community Specialist Services, who said: “Seven clinic rooms have been fully modernised here, creating an accessible base for specialist chronic disease care.

“Outreach clinics and pulmonary rehab will continue in Cahir, Carrick‑on‑Suir, Cashel and Tipperary Town. Alongside the HSE’s telehealth services, these clinics ensure that care remains available close to home for our service users.

“We look forward to the enhanced teamwork that this new facility in Clonmel will support, providing an excellent additional resource for delivering specialist care to people living with Type 2 diabetes, COPD, asthma and heart conditions”.
