BREAKING: Second cockfighting discovery this week in Tipperary following multi-agency raid

Man charged with animal cruelty after Gardaí uncover roosters in “appalling conditions”

Another multi-agency operation targeting illegal cockfighting activity has taken place in Tipperary Town, just days after a major seizure earlier this week.

Gardaí confirmed the details of Wednesday evening’s (April 1) operation in an official statement on social media, outlining the involvement of multiple agencies and the condition in which the animals were found.

“Another multi-agency operation involving Community Gardaí, Vet from Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Officers from NSPCA and the National Parks and Wildlife Service, took place in Tipperary Town this evening where a premises was searched and a number of fighting roosters were discovered in appalling conditions. One bird was deceased and another was extremely unwell. All birds were seized by Gardaí and handed into the care of the NSPCA who will carry out an assessment on the birds to determine the appropriate course of action concerning their welfare.

"One male was arrested for alleged offences contrary to the Animal Welfare and Heath 2013 and was detained at Tipperary Town Garda Station. This male was charged with a number of offences including animal cruelty. This operation into illegal cockfighting activity will continue in the Tipperary Town area.”

The latest development follows a separate operation earlier this week in the area, as investigations into illegal cockfighting continue.
