BREAKING: Male (40s) arrested and roosters seized in ongoing Tipperary animal cruelty case

The arrest follows mutli-agency raids investigating cockfighting in Tipperary

Gardaí conducted additional searches at a property in Tipperary Town following a multi‑agency operation investigating incidents of animal cruelty and arrested a male on Wednesday 1st April 2026.

Seven roosters were discovered during the searches, 6 alive and 1 deceased. They were seized and handed into the care of the NSPCA, who will carry out an assessment.

A male in his 40s was arrested and conveyed to a Garda Station in Co Tipperary. He has since been charged and is due to appear in front of the Tipperary District Court sitting at Thurles at a later date.

Investigations are ongoing and Gardaí continue to liaise with the Department of Agriculture and other relevant agencies regarding this matter.

These latest enforcement actions come amid escalating concern over animal welfare in Tipperary.
