62% of Tipperary parents are in favour of religious-run schools

The figures were published by the Government, showing that most parents don't want to see a change to a multi-denominational school for their kids

A new survey shows that 62% of Tipperary parents are in favour of their children remaining in a religious-run school, according to the results of a study undertaken by the Government.

Almost three-quarters of Tipperary parents (73.5%) whose children go to a single-sex school would prefer if the school was mixed, and a huge majority (87%) of parents whose children were taught mainly through the English language, would prefer it stayed that way.

The results were published by the Minister for Education and Youth, Hildegarde Naughton, who also welcomed the ‘exceptionally high level of engagement’  as over 200,000 households took part alongside strong participation from school staff and Boards of Management.

More than 3,200 primary schools took part in the national Primary School Survey, and the department is continuing its detailed analysis of the survey data and is preparing finalised school-specific results for each of schools, which will be sent to them in the coming weeks.
