Tipperary qualified for a Munster semi-final against Cork on April 25 as a consequence of their five-points defeat of Waterford in this afternoon's Munster Senior Football Championship quarter-final at Cappoquin Logistics Fraher Field in Dungarvan.

Tipp had 13 points to spare over their neighbours when the counties met in the National League three weeks previously.

However, the margin was much tighter on this occasion, as Waterford made a brave bid to repeat the county's recent championship victories over Tipperary's Minors and Under 20s.

Waterford won the toss and elected to play with the strong wind in the opening half, and they led at the break by 1-3 to 0-5.

They were still in front in the early stages of the second half but a two-pointer from Sean O'Connor in the 43rd minute proved the turning point, giving Tipp a lead that they held to the finish.

O'Connor scored six points in the second half, with further scores from Jack O’Neill and Cian Smith putting Tipp into the driving seat as the second half progressed.

Waterford had points from Adam Murray and Billy Hynes in added time, but they weren't enough to rescue their side from defeat.
