Motorists have to resort to prayer before making a “seriously dangerous turn” on a road in Co Tipperary, a council meeting has heard.
Fine Gael councillor John Fitzgerald spoke on the subject at the April meeting of the Clonmel Borough District.
Cllr Fitzgerald said: “There is a very seriously dangerous turn on the N24 as it turns up from Barne onto the L3205.
“When you drive into the traffic island or drive into the turn right position, it’s a scary place to sit in a car.
“Quite a few people have said it to me that something is going to happen there because there’s traffic coming against you and the traffic coming behind you at a very high speed at that particular point.”

He went on to describe the feeling being experienced by motorists who are trying to make that turn.
“There’s more traffic on the road these days and it's a prayer you say in the car at times at that particular point.
“You find yourself in a position where you want to get off the road. Now, it’s never easy turning off a national primary road onto a side road, especially when you’re going right across the other carriageway.
“I understand that, but I’m just wondering could anything be done.”
Cllr Fitzgerald concluded by saying that it was residents of Clerihan village who brought the matter to his attention.
In response, Gillian Flynn, Senior Executive Engineer at Tipperary County Council, said that the council will examine the issue.
Meanwhile, Fianna Fáil councillor Siobhán Ambrose raised the issue of the turn off for Grange on the Inner Relief Road.
Cllr Ambrose said: “As you’re leaving the school and if you’re at the junction and you want to turn right, you really are taking your life in your hands coming out of Rathkeevin.
“I have asked previously and both our own engineers to be fair have asked the TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland) engineers to come down and have a look at it as well.
“Really something has to be done because it’s a very busy junction.”
She concluded that many parents have to turn right at that junction after dropping their kids to school in the morning.
