Uninsured motorist arrested on suspicion of using moped while over the legal limit

A MOPED user who was allegedly driving while uninsured and over the legal alcohol limit is facing prosecution in court, gardai have confirmed.

After the vehicle was stopped in the Knocktopher area of County Kilkenny, gardai established it had not been taxed for a number of years and that the driver did not have a licence or insurance.

The moped, which was spotted by members of the Kilkenny Roads Policing unit, was seized following the detection at around 2.10pm on Thursday. 

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said the man was later released pending a court appearance.

If convicted, the motorist faces a possible driving ban.
