An evacuation of a large University premises has taken place following the detection of “a possible irritant in the air.”

The main building at the Moylish campus of The Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) in Limerick was evacuated at approximately 11am this Wednesday, a spokesperson for the University has confirmed.  

Members of Limerick Fire and Rescue Service responded and, following their arrival, they investigated complaints of a possible irritant in the air in one part of the building.  

A spokesperson confirmed that a number of people have been treated at the scene. 

“No source was found for the irritant and following the inspection, the Limerick Fire Service has advised that the main building can re-open at 2:30pm,” they added.
