A thirteen-year-old boy was arrested over the bank holiday weekend during an operation targeting the illegal use of scramblers in the Dublin area, gardai have confirmed.

The juvenile was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

In a post on social media, a garda spokesperson stated: "Gardaí in Ballymun working to tackle the illegal use of scramblers in the area seized four bikes over the weekend. These vehicles are dangerous and present a lot of problems for local residents."

Gardai have not publicly disclosed what action, if any, will be taken against the 13-year-old boy.

The weekend operation follows another 'day of action' which took place in the Ballymun area earlier this month which resulted in the seizure of seven scrambler motorbikes.
