A teenage boy from Burnfoot, near Dungiven, has sadly died following a collision involving a quad bike outside Eglinton village, Derry, Tuesday morning, police have confirmed.

Isaac Roxborough (14) passed away in hospital today, Wednesday, from his injuries following the single-vehicle collision on the Ballygudden Road.

The young boy was riding the quad at the time of the accident.

Inspector Cherith Adair from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision Investigation Unit said: "Our thoughts are very much with the family at this incredibly sad time, Isaac was just 14 years old.

"A meticulous investigation to establish the circumstances is underway and we would ask anyone who noticed the red Honda quad on the Ballygudden Road on Tuesday morning, June 25, shortly before 11.30am or who witnessed the collision to contact us on 101 quoting 675 25/06/24 with any information or dash-cam footage."

As news of Isaac's death broke this evening, dozens of tributes were paid online.

Burnfoot Hub confirmed that the local community centre will remain closed over the next two days as a mark of respect.

“The committee, staff and the entire community of Burnfoot wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to Mark, Katrina, Adam and James on the tragic passing of Isaac Roxborough,” read a Facebook post.

New Gate Arts and Cultural Centre in Derry, where Isaac's father Mark works, also confirmed it will be closing tomorrow as a mark of respect.

Isaac was a member of Moneydig Young Conquerors and in an online tribute, a spokesperson for the band described him as a 'gifted side drummer'.

“It was with great sadness this afternoon that the band learnt of the tragic passing of our member Isaac Roxborough. Isaac had been a part of our band since he was a wee nipper, first as an enthusiastic cymbal player and over the last couple of years as a gifted side drummer, proudly parading alongside his dad Mark and brothers Adam and James.

“Always with a smile and a kind word for everyone, he will be fondly remembered by everyone associated with the band. Deepest condolences to Mark, Katrina and the family circle. Forever a Young Conqueror. Rest easy young Isaac Safe in the arms of Jesus.”
