Kerry mountain search for hiker who fell from ridge ends in tragedy as body found

Rescue teams in Co Kerry stood down their search on Thursday following the tragic discovery of a body in the Dingle Peninsula.

Rescue services were alerted shortly before 2pm on Thursday after the man, who was reportedly hiking with a group of hill walkers, fell from a ridge.

The grim discovery occurred on Cnoc Bhréanainn/Mount Brandon in the Dingle Peninsula on Thursday afternoon - Gardaí, personnel from the Kerry Mountain Search and Rescue team and the Coast Guard attended the scene.

The body was discovered in the same vicinity as the search to find missing hiker Sebastian Jaworski, who was last seen near the summit of Mount Brandon on Sunday afternoon, 23rd June.

Formal identification is yet to take place as Gardaí liaise with the deceased's family. It's believed the incident was a tragic accident.

The remains have been removed and transferred to the morgue at University Hospital Kerry, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
