A Longford man who sustained life changing injuries as a result of a motorcycle accident has had a donations page established to assist him at this difficult time.
The GoFundMe page made a public appeal for support saying: “We are reaching out to you for your support during this very difficult time for Tommy Donlon who was involved in a serious road traffic accident which unfortunately left Tommy with permanent, life changing injuries.”
Tommy is well known for his business, Shotblast Engineering, where he prepares steel and other materials by remove any rust from most steelwork using abrasives.
The GoFundMe page says Tommy's injuries will bring an end to his employment: “Not only does this bring life changing challenges to him, he will not be in a position to physically work again.”
The donations page gave some background saying: “Tommy is an avid motor sport enthusiast and has marshaled very well at all motor sport events, autocross and stage rally in Cavan, Monaghan, Sligo, Birr, Galway and Westmeath.
“He is also a member of the Midlands Motor Club; indeed his work van has often been used as a mobile canteen to feed the hungry marshals. Tommy is also a member of Newtownforbes gun club and a keen sea fisherman in Sligo.
“He has been an active blood donor for many years having made a considerable amount of donations but will now no longer be able to donate blood again.”
The GoFundMe page has set a goal of €15,000 and more than €7,000 has been raised in the opening few days. The organisers said: “We his friends and family wish to raise funds for his immediate medical expenses and to help fund requirements that would ease his rehabilitation going forward.
“Tommy is known for his kindness, generosity and unwavering spirit and so we take this opportunity to appeal for your support at this very difficult time.
“All donations and your messages of support would be greatly appreciated.”
The address on the page concluded by saying: “We also send best wishes to Paul, who gives his full support to this fundraiser, and wish him a speedy recovery.
“Thanking you for your generosity, prayers and support. Together we can help Tommy get through this incredibly challenging time on the path to recovery.”
