Customers to be hit by further price hikes in health insurance

The Health Insurance Authority (HIA) has learned that Vhi Healthcare intend to increase the cost of health insurance across a range of plans from 1 March.
Customers will see an average increase in prices by 3% on adult premiums across all Vhi plans.
This latest increase follows a number of large hikes in health insurance costs last year. According to the HIA, the price of health insurance policies in Ireland increased by 11% on average in the first three quarters of 2024.
Now, people can expect further increases in their premiums when they renew this year.
The HIA has encouraged all customers to carefully review their plans before renewing and to consider switching if their current plan doesn't fit their health needs or budget in order to "promote a competitive and innovative health insurance market that meets the needs of the market."
People will be informed of any changes to their plan, including any price or benefit changes, in their renewal letters. Vhi customers will be affected by the price changes if they renew their policy on or after 1 March.
For those who are mid-contract, the cost of insurance won't change on 1 March but will at the time of renewal.
