Gardai at Mountmellick are investigating the woman's death
Gardaí are investigating the death of a woman whose remains were recovered from a river in County Laois earlier this week.
It’s understood the woman, who was from the Mountmellick area, may have fallen into the river. Gardai are believed to be treating the death of the woman, who was aged in her 60s, as a tragic accident.
The Civil Defence assisted in recovering her remains from the Owenass River on Wednesday night.

When contacted, a garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí were alerted to the death of a woman in Mountmellick, Co Laois yesterday evening, Wednesday, February 19 2025.
The body of the deceased, a woman in her 60s, was removed to the mortuary at Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
A file will be prepared for the Coroner’s office,” gardaí said in a statement.
