Hundreds of motorists have been caught speeding across the country so far this bank-holiday weekend, gardai have revealed.

It's one of the busiest weekends of the year on the roads which means there are more people out and about including cyclists, runners and pedestrians.

Gardai are mounting a special roads policing operation across the weekend in conjunction with the Road Safety Authority.

"So far, we have detected over 600 speeding drivers as part of our roads policing operation being conducted with our Road Safety Authority Ireland colleagues," said a garda spokesperson.
