Twenty pipe bombs were discovered during a garda follow-up search in Ardee, Co Louth on Wednesday evening.

The operation was carried out by members of the Divisional Drug Unit based at Drogheda Garda Station following an earlier intelligence-led investigation linked to the seizure of €190,000 worth of drugs in Ardee on April 28. 

Gradaí confirmed a total of 20 pipe bombs were found during the course if the search.

A cordon was established and the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended the scene.

The EOD team examined the suspect devices, "made them safe", and removed them from the area for further examination. 

"Investigations are ongoing," a garda spokesperson said.
