'Danger to public safety': Gardaí seize van with bald tyres and green diesel in fuel tank

Gardaí in Kildare confirmed that the vehicle was seized and multiple court proceedings will follow

In a multi-agency operation, Gardaí in Kildare alongside the Road Safety Authority, Revenue Customs and Excise, Department of Social Protection and the Health and Safety Authority, recently carried out checkpoints across North and South of the county.
Through this operation, a number of serious detections were made. This includes one vehicle that attempted to evade a checkpoint.
Stopping shortly after, it was discovered that the driver had no insurance and no tax. Along with this, the vehicle also had bald tyres and contained green diesel, which was detected by Customs Officers.
Gardaí in Kildare confirmed that the vehicle was seized and multiple court proceedings will follow.
A driver of a professional HGV that was transporting livestock in a fully laden Articulated Trailer was also stopped during these checks. They were found to have failed the roadside drug test for cocaine.
The driver was arrested at the scene.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána in Kildare said, "These detections highlight the dangerous disregard some road users have for traffic laws and public safety. We remain committed, in partnership with other agencies, to ensuring our roads are safe for everyone.
"Thank you to all the agencies involved for their continued cooperation and vigilance," they concluded.
