Luas services at Docklands to remain closed for ‘several weeks at least’

Luas services along a section of Dublin’s Docklands are set to remain closed for at least several weeks following a major fire.

Firefighters brought the blaze at George’s Dock Bridge under control by 11.30pm on Tuesday.

Previously Luas operators Transdev said the Luas red line services would not operate from Connolly Station to The Point for at least seven days.

On Friday evening in a statement on social media it was announced that the services will remain closed “for several weeks at a minimum”.

It described “extensive damage” to George’s Docklands Bridge.

Options for a replacement bus service are being considered.

“Luas Red Line services between Connolly and The Point Stop will remain closed for several weeks at a minimum following damage caused by the recent fire in the Docklands area of Dublin city,” it wrote.

“Initial investigations show significant damage to George’s Docklands Bridge.

“Structural engineering assessments are ongoing, led by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Transdev, the Luas Operator.

“Until these safety checks are complete, services cannot resume in the affected area.

“In addition, the Luas team is examining options for a dedicated replacement bus service to cover the affected section while works and assessments continue.

“These checks are essential for everyone’s safety, and we appreciate the patience and support of Luas passengers during this disruption.

“Further updates will be provided by the Luas Customer Care team as engineering assessments progress.”
