A woman who was arrested after online threats were made against Tánaiste Simon Harris has now been released.
On Tuesday, September 2, investigating Gardaí confirmed they were looking into recent online threats against an elected representative.
Throughout the course of their enquiries, a woman, aged in her 30s, was arrested.
The woman was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region. She was released the following day (September 3) without charge.
According to the PA news agency, earlier this week the Tánaiste said he had received “direct threats” at the weekend, targeting his family.
“Threatening children is despicable,” he said on Monday.
“It is cowardice and it is a line that no decent society should tolerate being crossed." Mr Harris said he would not be commenting further at this time.
An Garda Síochána have confirmed that a file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Investigations are ongoing.
