RIP: Two dead, one seriously injured following fire at house in Offaly town

A woman and a young boy have died following a house fire in County Offaly, gardai have confirmed.

They say they are currently investigating all the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident that occurred at a domestic residence in Castleview Park, Edenderry - close to the Offaly/Kildare border at approximately 7.45pm on Saturday.

"An Garda Síochána can confirm two fatalities as a result of this house fire. A female, aged 60 years and a young boy were fatally injured. A second female, aged in her 50s is receiving treatment for serious injuries at a hospital in the Midlands," said a spokesperson this Sunday morning.

Gardaí in Tullamore are investigating the incident and they are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tullamore garda station on 057 932 7600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

The scene of the fire will be subject to technical and forensic examinations and arrangements are being made to carry out post mortem examinations on the bodies of the deceased.

Gardai say investigations are ongoing and that further updates will follow, when appropriate.
