Irish parents are being urged to check their homes after a popular children's toy was recalled over serious safety concerns.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has issued a warning over Squishy Dino Eggs and Squishy Unicorn Eggs, saying the products "present a health and choking risk."

According to the official notice, "the egg can burst easily during use, releasing small parts and a liquid."

It warns that "small parts may pose a choking risk if swallowed", while "handling or inhaling the liquid could bring users into contact with microbials, which may affect certain consumers, particularly those who are immunocompromised."

Around 232 products have been sold in the Republic of Ireland, through retailers Bookstation and Cards N Things.

  • Squishy Unicorn Egg (Item number 543436, barcode 505056570182)

Parents are now being told to "stop using the product immediately" and return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

The CCPC has urged consumers to take the warning seriously and to keep the products away from children.
