Gardaí will be out and about on National Slow Down Day
The Christmas period is one of the busiest on Irish roads. It is also one of the periods during which road users are at the highest risk of being involved in a fatal or serious road traffic collision.
To date, 167 people have lost their lives in road traffic collisions on Irish roads. An Garda Síochána in conjunction with the Road Safety Authority, will conduct its final National Slow Down of 2024 this Friday 20th December, 2024.
This coincides with week three of An Garda Síochána’s dedicated road traffic enforcement operation which began on Friday, 30th November 2024 and will continue throughout the festive period until the 6th of January 2025.
A third static speed camera, which is currently in commissioning and testing phase, will also go-live this Friday, 20th of December on N13, Donegal.
Vehicles detected driving in excess of the 100km/h posted speed limit will be subject to prosecution from Friday 20th December 2024. Prosecution of speeding offences take place by Fixed Charge Notice. The current Fixed Charge Notice is €160 fine accompanied by 3 penalty points.
Further details of the Static Speed Camera system are published on the Garda website: N13 Co. Donegal - Garda
