Munster man nets late winner on debut for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Wrexham

Cork's Eoghan O’Connell

Debutant Eoghan O’Connell scored a late winner as promotion-chasing Wrexham maintained their challenge at the top of the Vanarama National League with a 2-1 win at Altrincham on Saturday.

The Cork man (27), who joined the club owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney on Transfer Deadline Day, has had spells at Celtic, Cork City and most recently Charlton before signing for the Welsh side.

Ollie Palmer put Wrexham ahead on the hour but it needed late heroics from O’Connell to secure three points.

Wrexham are currently second on the league table, three points behind Notts County with two fewer games played.
